We all desire a beautiful body, but not everyone is naturally blessed like the stunning individuals we encounter in our lives or the celebrities we admire for their beauty. Many times, our favorite celebrity crushes attribute the secret of their beauty to two simple things: sleep and lots of water.

While celebrities may not always divulge the details of their lengthy, costly beauty routines when asked by reporters, paparazzi, or fans, there’s a fundamental truth in their claim—good sleep is the genuine secret behind the beautiful human being.

What attributes define true beauty in a person?

When we describe someone as beautiful, what exactly are we conveying? What qualities contribute to a person being perceived as beautiful? Let’s explore the essence of beauty and explore the elements that truly define a beautiful individual.

When we call someone beautiful, we think about three things: their physical appearance, the eloquence of their speech, and the grace in their behavior.

How They Look:

This refers to the appeal of their physical features. A good physical appearance encompasses beautiful eyes, radiant skin, well-kept hair, and other beautiful features like the nose, lips, and ears. A fit body is also considered part of this allure. While some may consider trendy clothes, expensive accessories, and makeup as elements of physical beauty, it’s crucial to recognize that these are merely external enhancements. They don’t inherently enhance a person’s physical appearance but rather offer a temporary illusion of beauty.

How and what they talk:

Words possess magical powers – they can heal, break, inspire, demotivate, enlighten, confuse, attract, and repel people. When someone articulates their thoughts, ideas, or emotions in a way that heals, inspires, enlightens, and attracts others, it makes them truly beautiful. The quality of their thoughts and spoken words also plays a significant role, and the higher the quality, the more beautiful the person becomes.

How They Behave:

Behavior, in simple terms, refers to the way a person acts or conducts themselves in various situations. It includes the actions, reactions, and responses that individuals demonstrate in their daily lives, reflecting their character, manners, and interactions with others. Behavior can be influenced by personal traits, values, and the surrounding environment, shaping how individuals engage with the world around them.

Unlocking Beauty: Good Looks, Good Conversation, and Good Behavior – the Winning Formula for True Beauty.

To be deemed a beautiful individual, one must possess the trifecta of good looks, eloquent speech, and positive behavior. Together, these three elements create a synergistic effect that enhances each aspect, culminating in true beauty. Without the harmonious blend of all three, an individual cannot be labeled as beautiful.

Consider a person with physical beauty but lacking in quality thoughts and positive behavior—such an individual may be described as hot or cute, but not beautiful, as exemplified by figures like Kim Kardashian and other Hollywood celebrities.

Pretty Face ≠ Beautiful Person

This is why the quality of thoughts and what you are speaking matters because it can either make you appear weird or beautiful.

Similarly, someone gifted in expressing thoughts or ideas but lacking in good behavior and physical beauty might be recognized as an expert or intelligent, much like motivational speakers.

On the other hand, an individual with exceptional behavior, consistently impacting others positively, yet lacking in physical beauty and eloquence, can be aptly described as kind. An example might be a monk whose understanding of the materialistic world is limited. In essence, true beauty stems from the harmonious integration of good looks, good talking, and good behavior.

Sleep for Beauty

Sleep is the only thing that can improve all three things we aforementioned. It can make your body beautiful, it can make your mind beautiful and it can also make your behavior beautiful. But before we know how it can help, let’s learn what happens when we do not sleep enough.

Consequences of Sleep Deprivation

When you don’t get enough sleep, your judgment falters, paving the way for impulsive and negative decisions. Fatigue and irritability become unwelcome companions, influencing negative behavior towards others. Memory, focus, attention, and decision-making suffer, making learning, articulating and problem-solving a real challenge. Mood swings, anxiety, and depression may also become more pronounced. Sleep plays a crucial role in regulating hormones like ghrelin (hunger) and leptin (satiety). When you don’t get the right amount of sleep, the secretion of these hormones is disrupted, impacting appetite and metabolism. This, in turn, can affect the health and appearance of your skin, eyes, and weight.

How Proper Sleep Makes You Beautiful

In the realm of sleep, a debate rages on. From CEOs to politicians, some claim to thrive on a mere 3-4 hours of sleep daily. However, a closer look at their faces and the way they communicate might challenge this assertion. As the renowned poet Kanye West wisely put it, ‘I guess we’ll never know.’ Similarly, we might never know if these famous people are telling the truth about the hours of their sleep or if they simply want to appear great in the eyes of the public.

For those of us who aren’t Elon Musk or global leaders, a different reality unfolds. The consensus among sleep experts is clear – the ideal amount of nightly rest is 7-8 hours. Creating an optimal sleep environment is key. Picture this: a quiet, dark room with an AC set to a comfortable 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit (15.6 to 20 degrees Celsius). Embracing this sleep routine for at least a week may open the door to a cascade of benefits, helping you become a more beautiful person.

The Benefits of a Good Night’s Sleep on Your Beauty

When you begin to sleep on time and get a good amount of sleep every night, approximately 7 hours at least for a few weeks, you will start noticing the benefits in yourself.

  1. Good Eyes: Eyes are the first features people notice when they see us, playing a crucial role in defining attractiveness. Lack of sleep takes a toll on our eyes, causing tiredness, puffiness, and even dark circles in some cases. However, when you prioritize sufficient sleep, these issues fade away, and your eyes regain a refreshed and lively appearance. Adequate sleep not only enhances the aesthetics of your eyes but also contributes to an overall attractive and vibrant look that captivates those around you.
  1. Good Skin: Skin, as many of you may already know, plays a crucial role in defining the overall beauty of the body. Take a look at K-pop stars with their vibrant and smooth skin—proof that good, healthy skin is essential for a pretty appearance. Adequate sleep is crucial for collagen production, a key factor in maintaining healthy and beautiful skin structure. Insufficient sleep can elevate cortisol levels, leading to increased sebum production—a culprit in clogging pores and causing acne breakouts. Prioritizing good sleep acts as a natural beauty treatment, promoting skin repair, reducing inflammation, minimizing cortisol production, and imparting that coveted youthful glow.
  1. Healthy Weight: As mentioned earlier, sufficient sleep plays a crucial role in regulating appetite-related hormones like ghrelin and leptin. This regulation aids in better control over food cravings and metabolism. The result? Reduced cravings for unnatural and unhealthy foods, offering three key benefits: weight maintenance or reduction, enhanced health of the skin and other body parts, including hair, and an overall boost in your appearance when you achieve a healthy weight.
  1. Clean and Calm Mind: As bionic machines crafted by nature, we require moments of rest; otherwise, glitches manifest as anxiety, confusion, and irritability. These issues are often caused by hormonal imbalances, leading to a decline in mental clarity, sharpness, and a sense of calmness. However, sufficient sleep helps these glitches fade away, paving the way for clear thinking, articulate speech, and improved expression.
  2. Better Mood: In this blog, I’ve talked a lot about hormones and how they’re affected by not getting enough sleep. Now, let’s take a closer look at which hormones get influenced when we don’t sleep well and what problems it can cause.

Effects of Hormones on Our Body

When you don’t sleep well, all the aforementioned hormones, along with others, get affected, causing a multitude of problems. These problems contribute to a bad mood, leading to negative behavior towards others, which doesn’t make the person beautiful.

On the contrary, when you sleep well, your body produces the right amount of various hormones, promoting mental and physical health. This, in turn, enhances your mood and encourages positive behavior towards the people you encounter in your life.

Sleep completes the beauty formula mentioned earlier and makes a person think better, talk better, behave better, and look better, all of which contribute to making a person truly beautiful.

Bottom Line

While sleep enhances all three things that make a person beautiful, but it alone cannot unlock the highest level of your beauty. To achieve that, you need to incorporate other practices such as exercise, mindful thinking, reading, continuous learning, and practising compassion. Additionally, wearing the right clothes and following beauty rituals can further enhance your overall beauty.
